Sunny Studio & Doodlebug Summer Cards + Stamping Sale

Today the Summer Issue of Scrapbooks & Cards Today is hitting newsstands and I'm super excited to be sharing two new cards using a fun sketch they provided as inspiration!
For both of my cards I paired some of my favorite Doodlebug papers with some of Sunny Studio's newest stamps for Summer.

Up first is a card using the Magical Mermaid stamps that I colored in with Copic markers and mixed together with Doodlebug's adorable Under The Sea collection.

For my next card I went a bit more masculine and created a shaker card using the Oceans of Joy stamps together with Doodlebug's Anchors Aweigh collection.  I used a Silhouette cutting file that I created which I am sharing as a free download.

Pebbles & Lawn Fawn Quick & Easy Valentine's Day cards

Hello there!  I'm back with one last Valentine's Day post sharing some quick and easy card ideas that are currently being featured in the Spring issue of CardMaker Magazine.  All of these ideas were created with a limited amount of supplies (listed below) just to show you don't need a lot on hand to create something fun.

Lawn Fawn & Pebbles Quick & Easy Valentine's Day cards by Mendi Yoshikawa

Up first is a card I created by cutting a number of small hearts from patterned paper to create a backdrop using a versatile nesting die set.  I then heat embossed the darling elephant stamps and sentiments onto red cardstock to make them pop and to save time (vs. stamping them onto white where I would feel the need to color them in with markers or colored pencils).

My second card utilized that same nesting heart die set, this time using the larger heart as a mat for the darling hedgehogs.

My last card showcases a number of fun prints from the collection with a series of hand-cut pennants.  I finished off each card with some faux stitching created with my favorite gel pen by Uniball.  I think it helps the mats for each card pop off the page and not get lost with all the other prints.

Each of these cards were created in under 30 minutes (I'm slow so you may be able to do it even quicker) using these 9 basic supplies:

1. Pebbles We Go Together 6x6 paper Pad
2. Bazzill Smoothie Red Cardstock
3. Lawn Fawn Whale You Be Mine 2x3 stamp set
4. Lawn Fawn Love You Tons 2x3 stamp set
5. Lawn Fawn Hedgehugs 2x3 stamp set
6. Little B Heart Dies
7. VersaMark clear ink pad
8. Ranger Super Fine white embossing powder
9. Signo Uniball White Gel Pen

I hope I've inspired you in your last minute cardmaking.  ;)  I'll be back tomorrow with a layout using Doodlebug's new Pot O' Gold collection in an everyday application.  Until then...

I hope you guys all had an awesome Thanksgiving with family and friends!  Now that Christmas is officially upon us I thought I would share a card and ornament set (using Papertrey Ink's Shape up Snowman Die) which are currently being featured in the Winter 2015 issue of CardMaker Magazine.  :)

To say I was shocked when I opened the box from CardMaker Magazine is a huge understatement.  This was my first time being featured on the cover and it was such a happy surprise!  :)

Oh course I had to go to Michaels and take a picture of it sitting on the rack with all the other pretty magazines.  ;)

I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!  Thanks so much for stopping by.  :)

Graduation Owl & Cap Shaped Card with Free Cutting File

Hello there!  With May comes thoughts of graduation so I thought I would share a couple of fun shaped cards perfect for any graduates you may know!  :)

My first card is very near and dear to my heart.  I personally designed this cutting file for an issue of Paper Crafts magazine that ended up being cancelled when the magazine folded.  I had never challenged myself to create a file from scratch so it felt like a huge accomplishment for me and I'm very happy with how he turned out.  Make sure to keep reading for a little treat I have for you down below.  ;)

My second card uses THIS cutting file which I altered to include an extra layer for a more 3D look.  For an extra touch of realism I created handmade tassles from solid twine and attached them with brads on both of my cards.  For those of you who missed it, I previously shared a video showing my secrets to shaped cards HERE.

As a special thank you to all my sweet followers I am providing a free Silhouette cut file for this fun owl card (available to download HERE).  I hope you enjoy him as much I enjoyed creating him.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  :)
