Creating a Christmas Village by Mixing Doodlebug Collections

Hello there!  How are you?  Are you guys feeling ready for Christmas?  I know in so many ways I'm not, but I guess it's coming whether whether I get my act together or not... ;)

Today I'm sharing one last project for Christmas featuring a mixture of some darling papers from several of my favorite Doodlebug collections.

Doodlebug Design: Christmas Village Houses by Mendi Yoshikawa (using Sizzix Dies & Patterned Papers from various Doodlebug collections).

I have been wanting to create a Christmas village ever since I received these sweet Sizzix Village dies earlier this year.  I knew if I didn't do something with them now they might become buried under a pile of other things on my rapidly growing "someday" list.

Knowing these would take some a bit of time to create and wanting them to last year after year, I started by first cutting my houses from some heavy weight chipboard.  I then cut them again from some of my favorite Doodlebug Petite prints and other small prints from various 6x6 paper pads.  Because of the thickness of the chipboard, I needed to cut my patterned papers apart at the corner seams so that the windows and other openings would line up properly on all four sides.  To get around this, I matched the patterns with a corner piece that I created for each corner using a small piece of paper, scored and folded in half.

To add a fun detail to my roofs, I turned to various scalloped border dies in my stash, cutting them from 1/2" wide strips of patterned paper.  To keep the layers from blending together, I inked each edge with a bit of distress ink using a foam applicator.

One of the die sets come with the pieces to cut the snowy rooftops.  I started by cutting them all from white cardstock and then coated them with a Marvy Uchida Snow Marker.  Before heating them with my heat gun to puff them up and make them look real, I sprinkled them with Doodlebug's Lily White Sugar Coating Glitter.  When heated, the glitter becomes permanently adhered and it left them looking so sparkly and pretty!

I completed my houses, with simple wreaths created with a couple metallic pipe cleaners wrapped around a pencil and adhered with a little liquid glue. I love how they added a touch of green and added even more sparkle to my scene!

To complete my scene I picked up some miniature trees and an iridescent garland
at Michaels to act as a filler in the background, while hiding my miniature strand of battery powered lights.

I hope I've inspired you to think outside the box and mix papers from different collections on your next project.  ;)

Before I go, I would like to thank everyone at Doodlebug for allowing me the sincere pleasure of sharing projects using their adorable products for these past four years.  It has been a dream of mine since I first discovered Doodlebug back in 2003 and I while I must step away for now, I hope to be back again someday soon.  They are truly the best of the best and I feel so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to work with them!

I would also like to wish each one of you a very merry Christmas filled with lots of wonderful memories!

Doodlebug Sunkissed Layout using PageMaps Sketch

Today it's my turn on the Doodlebug blog and I'm sharing a closer look at a playful layout I created using a new PageMaps sketch by Becky Fleck and Doodlebug's adorable Sunkissed collection!

Here's a peek at Becky's wonderful sketch from this month that inspired my page:

I chose to combine the two smaller photos into one larger 5" x 4" photo which led me to a great selfie my daughter took of herself on my camera last spring.  To mimic the circle title in the sketch, I used THIS awesome "selfie" cutting file and welded it to a circle which I had offset to match the thickness of the word.  I then layered them on a scalloped circle and completed my title with Doodlebug's Teensy Type Alpha Stickers.

For the second point in my visual triangle I layered a couple clouds (from the new Doodlebug Sizzix dies) with a sunshine sticker from the icon sticker sheet.

I completed my visual triangle with a camera sticker which I layered with a glitter sprinkle and tied with doodle twine.  It felt like the perfect embellishment to tie in with my selfie theme so I was pretty excited to find it on that same icon sticker sheet!

If you aren't familiar with the PageMaps website, make sure to head over and take a look.  She has a wonderful archive section dating all the way back to the beginning in 2006 with printable PDF's for each month.  I can't believe she has been inspiring us for almost a decade now--Oh how time flies when we're having fun!  ;)

Thanks for hanging with me.  :)

Doodlebug Cards With New Sizzix Dies & Embossing Folders

Hello there!  I am so excited to share my latest obsession.  Today on the Doodlebug blog I am sharing a handful of cards using their newest Dies and Embossing Folders by Sizzix.

As you can see by the number of cards I made I could have created with these for days.  Every time I started one card, another card idea popped into my head.  I just know you are going to fall in love with them just as much as I have!

Card No. 1:  For my first card I paired the Sunshine Backdrops paper from the Hello Sunshine collection with some of the raindrops sprinkle vellum.  To add a little detail to my umbrella die-cut I added some hand-stitching and a bumblegum jewel.

Card No. 2:  This card focuses on the two different flowers pulled from two of the Thinlits Die Sets using more papers from the Hello Summer Paper Pack and a sheet of Lily White Sprinkles vellum.  I love how by putting some below the vellum they take on the look of patterned paper and prevent them from detracting from the sentiment and focal point flower on top.

Card No. 3:  My next card was my first actually.  As soon as I saw the adorable rainbow and cloud dies I couldn't wait to make a fun border with them.  For the sun die that comes with the rainbow set, I added some glitter sprinkles to the ends of his rays.  Isn't he so irresistible?!

Card No. 4: For this card I let the Sizzlits Eyelet Lace & Scallops Decorative Strip Die and Doodlebug's textured cardstock take center stage.  I chose to leave the interior shapes in place so that they could layer on top of each other with less distractions of what was going on underneath each one.  Easy peasy and yet still so happy.

Card No. 5:  The options with the sweet umbrella die are literally endless.  I love how it works for Rainy Day spring cards, baby showers and even bridal showers.  For this baby boy card I chose to cut my umbrella from several different prints included in the Snips & Snails paper collection and then paper-piece it together.  A couple of coordinating birdie icon stickers were the perfect finishing touch.

Card No. 6:  My last card uses the umbrella die again for a girly bridal shower card.  I paired it with the Tiny Flowers Textured Impressions Embossing Folder for my background and some of the scalloped borders from that same decorative strip die I used on my 4th card.  For my soft pink prints I used Doodlebug's Sugar & Spice 6x6 Paper Pad.

Are you a goner like me?  I hope I've inspired you to head over to the Sizzix website and take a good peek at them.  They are completely drool worthy!  Also make sure to check out THIS post over at the Doodlebug blog for your chance to win some of your own.  :)
