CardMaker & Heartfelt Creations Blog Hop: Poinsettia Cards

Hello & welcome to the CardMaker and Heartfelt Creations blog hop!  You should be arriving here from Chitra's Blog or if you're just joining in the fun, you can start from the beginning at the CardMaker Blog.  :)

For my cards today I used the beautiful Christmas Poinsettia Cling Stamp set and matching Sun Kissed Fleur Die.

My vision was to go light and airy so for my first card I stitched white on white diagonal strips of paper to my background.  For my sentiment I inked up a basic circle with matching distress ink an then heat embossed my sentiment in white.

I heat embossed the flower images onto white cardstock using gold powder and then inked up the pedals with distress inks (linked below).  I wanted some gold pearls for the center, but I didn't have any so I used a Copic marker to add the gold color to my white pearls.  Jennifer McGuire taught me this trick and I love it.  The marker goes on translucent so you can still see the nice pearly shine come through.  :)

My next card uses a very similar layout, although this time I inked up the background with Tumbled Glass distress ink before embossing it with an embossing folder.  For my Poinsettia images, I stamped them once with Bamboo Leaves Memento and a second time with Rhubarb Stalk before coloring them in with Copic Markers.  When coloring with Copics I often forget to stamp in colors besides black and brown, but I love the look of using other colors!

While I had my supplies out, I decided to make use of some of the extra flowers I had left over after my first card.  I simply die-cut a quick tag from kraft paper, drew a little dotted line around the border and then added some stickles glitter glue to the poinsettia petals.  It only took me a few extra minutes and I was able to rescue something that might have sat on my desk unused for months before I finally just tossed it.

I hope I've inspired you to take a closer look at this set.  I love that the dies have been designed to match a variety of different flower themed stamp sets.  I think they would also be great used on their own.  ;)

You have one last step in this hop today and it's the Heartfelt Creations blog.  You won't want to miss that one.  They are sharing 25 projects from their design team so it's guaranteed to be chocked full of inspiration using their newest release (comments can be left by scrolling all the way to the bottom of their page there).
