Day 5- Doodlebug North Pole Card with Tree Cutout

I started with a grand idea for today's card and I honestly struggled (big time) to turn my vision a reality on this one.  I'm not sure how I feel about the finished piece, but maybe I've been looking at it too long...  ;)

I wanted to do a tree cutout with an embossed background then just add scalloped layers beneath (which I did), but somehow when I put the my stamped Lawn Fawn banner and Sentiment over the top it felt odd without any other stamped images.  My tree just seemed to disappear into the background so I ended up tracing it with a black sharpie (which didn't work with the bumpy embossed surface).  Then I started over, tracing my tree and then embossing it. That led to me tracing my scalloped strips of paper below to make them tie in.  It's hard to even to see the negative effect in my photo, but I was determined to keep it flat for mailing.  ;)

What about you?  Do you have days like this?  Do your projects ever end up in the trash bin or do you live with the imperfections?  I have only tossed a card once or twice in all my years as of paper crafting.  I usually just try my best to fix whatever I've screwed up and live with it.  I think it comes down to being thrifty--I can't stand feeling like I've wasted my supplies and my time with nothing to show for it.  :)

  1. I think the card looks great. I am so far behind in my scrapbooking that if I make a mistake, I don't have the time or patience to do it over. Is that your handwriting on the banner? That's the part I usually mess up-I'm never happy with my handwriting.

    1. Thanks Kate! You're so sweet! The sentiment was stamped using Lawn Fawn's Cozy Christmas Stamp Set. :)

  2. Mendi I think your card is beautiful & I'm glad so glad you didn't throw it away! The only thing you could add is a star if you really wanted to change it. Thanks for sharing it!

  3. This is adorable....and oh my goodness, I ALWAYS have days like that! I usually try to do something to save my mistakes but there have been many times I've just given up and pitched them (it's my OCD:)...I can't help it!)
